AVANCA FILM FESTIVAL 2012 IN JAPAN

Films and speakers of Avanca meet again in Tokyo.

In the year that the Festival AVANCA 2012 celebrates 15 years and holds its 16th edition, films and speakers that participated in the festival of 2011 will meet again in Tokyo at the "Film and the Body in crisis", taking place during the next 14 .

Being a cinema festival and a symposium, this event is organized by the University of Meiji in Tokyo, one of the biggest and most important Japanese universities.

Looking to discuss the body image in cinema in a world in crisis, the symposium recalls March 11, 2011, when an earthquake destroyed and caused a series of devastating events in people, goods and tranquillity.

According to Philip Zitowitz, Professor in the Meiji University and mentor of the symposium, "Catastrophes put the human body under extreme stress, similarly body image in film has been under constant attack, creating, according film theorists, a body in crisis, living in a parallel with a world in crisis. "

The Japanese organization invited 16 speakers and filmmakers who were in the AVANCA 2011, that being from the 5 continents, will bring contributes to the symposium.
Among the guests are the director of AVANCA 2012 Antonio Costa Valente and the Portuguese filmmaker Costa e Silva.

The event will screen and discuss several Portuguese films which had its world premiere in previous editions of the Festival Avanca, including:
“Conto do vento” by Cláudio Jordão and Nelson Martins, “O voo da papoila” by Nuno Portugal, “1111” by Costa e Silva and “O bebé” by Mohammadreza Hajipour.

There will also be screened the films "Broken Clouds" by Yuri Alves (USA), "The Son" by Jan Wagner (Poland), "voiceS" of Peter Bebjak (Slovakia), "Don’t be afraid of the dark room" by Kuba Czekaj (Poland) and "360ª" by Maja Djokic (Spain).
